October 2021

In October the members of Northern Brisbane had a 'Bring a Friend' Halloween Day.

We demonstrated some of our business meetings and as Librarian I told Halloween jokes.

Everyone then dressed up in scary, spooky or fun costumes, I came as Hermine from Harry Potter.

We had ghosts, fairies, monsters, spiders, witches and more. Even the party food was Halloween themed.

Everyone had a great time playing the games, making jack o'lanterns and meeting new friends.

September 2021

On Saturday the 18th of September, we attended the Carnival of Flowers to participate in the Grand Parade. Our day started with us meeting at Anaconda in Everton Park around 6 o’clock in the morning. Once we all arrived, we piled back into our cars (many members car swapping) and then convoyed to pick up another member on the south side before continuing onto Maccas at Plainland for breakfast. It was absolutely packed. Took about half an hour to get our food. After that we continued to Toowoomba for the Carnival of Flowers. We couldn’t find a park near, so we had to park about half an hour walk away up a large hill, making some of us late to the parade. We then had to walk the length of the parade path in reverse trying to find the rest of our group. When we eventually found our group, one of the SES volunteers thankfully let us through to join them. We then walked the rest of the parade (again). Our group was led by a convertible decorated in flowers and scarfs. Our Miss Queensland Job’s Daughter and Jurisdictional Queen sat at the back of the car waving to everyone. It was a very hot day. At the end of the parade, the group in front of us were giving everyone soft drinks, so we all got free soft drink which we were very thankful for. After the parade, we caught up with one of our group members that we hadn’t seen for quite a while. It was great to see her again. After a long day, we all travelled home and slept very well that night.

On September the 25th, the annual Job's Daughters Spring Charity & Debutante Ball was held at Brisbane City Hall. 9 lovely debutantes made their debut with their charming partners. It was a lovely night and everyone danced beautifully. After weeks of preparation, everything fell into place on the night and it turned out great. All the money from the night went to the Jurisdictional Guardians charity, Dementia Australia. After all the formal business happened, the lights went out and the party continued with everyone dancing and jumping around to some great party music from the DJ. Overall, the night was really good and all of the girls looked beautiful and their partners looked handsome. It was definitely worth all the practices and hard work because the night turned out beautifully.

The bowling competition was very fun. It was white lie themed & my Bethel girls surprised me by doing my shirt. They had chosen the perfect one for me 'I hate selfies'. I couldn't help but laugh at that.

On the bowling side, even though we weren't that good, we all had such a great time together with all the Qld girls.

After the bowling had finished & we ate dinner, we congratulated Taryn for her term as a Supreme Officer and we gifted her a giant stuffed pineapple!

Was a great night of fun & friendship.

Our Bethel has a mystery trip at the end of every term to celebrate the past six months. As the Honoured Queen, it was my job to organise a surprise fun day for the girls. As our term had been interrupted by covid many times, I thought it was a good idea to have the girls come to my house for a fun and relaxed day & just spend time together in person. We had a barbecue for lunch, scavenger hunt, we played pie face, jelly twister, water slide (as it was such a hot day!) and more. It was a great day and was good to spend quality time together.

August 2021

What an amazing month August was! It kicked off with the Job’s Daughter International Conference (Supreme Session), which was held in Hampton, Virginia USA. Unfortunately because of COVID travel restrictions, we couldn’t travel in person, however we were able to participate virtually which is the very first time this has happened!

This meant we were able to be involved in the Supreme Bethel Meeting and witness all the various ceremonies. To top it off, we were able to watch the Miss International Job’s Daughter Pageant, which because of the virtual registration opportunity, had over 45 representatives!! We were so very excited and proud when Contestant #22, Queensland’s own representative Bethany, won Miss International. Congratulations Bethany! You so deserve this honour and we can’t wait to see where it takes you.

Sadly because of COVID restrictions, our Northern Brisbane Bethel were unable to have visitors to their Installation, however it did go ahead and we were so pleased to hear that it went well. A big CONGRATULATIONS to Olivia H who was installed as Honoured Queen by her big sister, and Officers. We wish you a successful term.

On 14th August, Bethel #24 Moreton Bay held a Spaghetti and Bingo night. This was so much fun! We started off with a big plate of spaghetti with garlic bread before getting down to many fun games of BINGO. There were heaps of prizes, of which we managed to win a few! Thank you to Kym D and all the members of Bethel #24 who contributed to the success of this fundraiser! So good!

On 20th August we held our Jurisdictional Visit and it was such a wonderful night! We invited past and present members of Job’s Daughters to come along and take part in the Obligation Ceremony, which resulted in us having thirty past and present members together. After the meeting, we did rock painting. This was so much fun, and really demonstrated the girls’ creative side. The plan is to place these pretty rocks out in the community for others to find and spread some joy.

It was also another opportunity for people to donate to our Bravery Box Toy Drive, which is our philanthropic project for the term. We are really starting to gather such a great collection of toys! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. If you would still like to donate, there will be other opportunities, or just reach out to one of our adult leaders.

A few months back, our Chermside Bethel had a zoom catch up with our Canadian sisters in a town in British Columbia called “Prince George”. We each did a PowerPoint presentation about our cities, states and countries, Job’s Daughters history and what we do in Job’s daughters for social activities, promotion, and fund raising. It was so much fun as each country finds the other one fascinating! This followed with a Kahoot trivia quiz about Australia and Canada general knowledge. Lots of fun!

But the point of this blog though, is that during August, we received a big box in the post from Prince George Bethel and the girls opened it after our Jurisdictional Visit. It was full of Canadian souvenirs, “candy”, maple biscuits and more. We’re now in the process of reciprocating! Did you know that they don’t have chicken salt over there? Good timing that Chicken in a Biscuit have made a come back!!!
